We used to eat at DeliMaster and at House of Wong right down the block from it. Best Chinese food ever. I thought that DeliMasters would be there forever.

Jane, I am trying to find out what happened to the family that owned the House of Wong. Do you know anything about that restaurant? I think the family’s name was Wong and they had a son named Tommy.

My Father had a trio there in the early thru mid 60’s. He played piano and had a bass player and drummer. They worked with great talents like Buddy Greco, Vic Damone, Jerry Vale, Jimmy Roselli etc. I could go on and on, they were great days. He went by the name ” The John Lind Trio”. It was managed by a man named John Avanzino. Does anyone remember this? My father and the rest of the trio are no longer with us and if anyone has any memory of them, I would really appreciate a response.

I celebrated my own 50th birthday there. I was the piano entertainer there for the last six years of its existence, January 1997 until February 2003. In the last few years there was a large group of middle-aged patrons, many of them talented singers. I accompanied them all, it was a glorious time.

Just after WW2 the White Castle on Q/blvd and 52nd street was picked up and moved to the corner of Q/blvd and 43rd Street. It’s modern version is still there. I was 12 and I had never seen anything like it. To this day I still remember that fantastic event. Does anybody else remember it ? Were you in the crowd with me ?

What about The Sunnyside Pool on Q/blvd and 54th street a few years later.

Does anybody have photos of either of the above ?

I remember the San Su San. My father played there with his trio on and off from 1961-1966. The John Lind Trio was the name of the group. I went there twice as a 12-13 yr. old. It was unreal, the talent, the whole showbiz thing. You had a singer, a dance act, a comedian, an intermission group, and the main attraction. Not to mention an announcer! So professional and everyone in tuxes! My father loved that job, always said the owners were good to everyone. It was “the place to be” in those days. These type of places are pretty much gone and people today don’t know what they’re missing. It was a nice evening out, people getting dressed up, dancing, great food, great show. It makes me wish I was born about 10 yrs. earlier to really experience it all. If anyone remembers this or John Lind, please respond.

There was a Len’s Hamburger place in Green Acres Mall. I don’t remember hot dogs there. Best burgers in the state at the time. The only hot dog place I recall is Nathan’s. They may have used beer, but I doubt it.
